Thunder and Lightning
© Written by Chi Coltrane (1971)

Ooh! What a good thing I've got
Oh it's such a good thing I've got
I don't think I can stand it

Thunder and Lightning
I tell you it's frightening
It's thunder and lightning
And you're in control

I thought my life was complete
But look what you're doin' to me
Oh! You're makin' me crazy

Thunder and Lightning
I tell you it's frightening
It's thunder and lightning
And you're in control

I don't know how to handle it
It's more than I would dare
I wouldn't try to run from it
It reaches me everywhere
I'm feelin' dizzy and weak
You make me forget how to speak
I can feel it happening

Thunder and Lightning
I tell you it's frightening
It's thunder and lightning
And you're in control

I don't know how to handle it
It's more than I would dare
I wouldn't try to run from it
It reaches me everywhere

Ooh! What a good thing I've got
Oh it's such a good thing I've got
I don't think I can stand it.

You Were My Friend

© Written by Chi Coltrane (1972)

You came in my home and took from me
All that I had to give
I thought that we would be good friends
For as long as we should live
I had some past experience with
People just like you
But I never thought you were that kind
So what was I to do
You were my friend, you were my friend
How can you stand and lie to me
And look me in the face
I wish I knew what strange disease
Could make you act that way
All the things we did together
I've known you for so long
I always did believe in you
How could I be so wrong?
You were my friend, you were my friend
How could you let me down? You were my friend
I guess for the sake of all we had
I should try to understand
But it just doesn't make much sense to me
To trust in you again
I wish we could forget it all
But I don't think that we can
Oh, why did this ever happen to us
My best and dearest friend
You were my friend, you were my friend
How could you let me down?
You were my friend
...Well, I guess that friendships
All come to an end.

Myself To You

© Written by Chi Coltrane (1973)

I’m sorry that I drifted off from you
While you were talking
I guess I seem to do it all the time
When I’m with you
Don’t you know you carry me away
When I listen to the things you say to me?
I know sometimes you think I’m just a child
who needs some learning
But you don’t understand that in my heart
I look to you?
You don’t know the way I feel inside
I would tell you but I can’t describe
Myself to you - I don’t know why.
You play music to me and I melt away
It just feels so good to be with you
I guess I’d better go, it’s getting late -
You must be tired
It always seems the time I spend with you
Goes much too fast
What a lovely way to round the bend
It’s too bad it always has to end—
Good-night my friend.

Go Like Elijah

© Written by Chi Coltrane (1972)

Someday my time to die will come.
When that will be, I do not know
I only know that when I have to go.
Yeah, when I go— I wanna go
Just let me go— Lord, when I go
Yeah, when I go— Lord, let me go

Just let me go like Elijah when I go
I want to rise right up into the sky
And ride white horses with fiery eyes
Lord for my sins I apologize

Just let me go — Lord when I go
When my time comes for me to go
Just let me go like Elijah when I go
I don't want no tombstone above my head
And I don't want no pinebox for my bed
And I don't want anyone to say I'm dead.
I don't want no one cryin'
Or feelin' sad
Or standin' in the rain without their hat
I wanna go up happy — Imagine that
Yeah, when I go— I wanna go
Just let me go -—Lord, when I go,
Yeah, when I go— Lord, let me go
Just let me go like Elijah when I go
I want to rise right up into the sky
And ride white horses with fiery eyes
Lord for my sins I apologize
Just let me go— Lord when I go
When my time comes for me to go
Just let me go like Elijah when I go...

Feelin' Good

© Written by Chi Coltrane (1972)

I've been alone, for a time—
Oh yeah baby—
I've been stung so I let
Love go by without waving
'Cause I never thought I'd fall in love again
And I didn't try 'cause I think of when
I was so in love
An' it didn't work out
But now you came in an' you make me wanna' shout
'Cause I'm feelin' good — you've got me feelin' good
O yeah I'm feelin' good
You've got me feelin' good
I don't know where you've been
Such a long time abiding
But I'm glad that you've finally come out of hiding
And now I don't care what my life has been
'Cause I know I'll never go back again
You're heavy babe got me singin' all day
An' I don't know how to say it any other way
I'm just feelin' good — you've got me feelin' good
Oh yeah I'm feelin' good
You've got me feelin' good
You brought joy to my soul
And it's been so long since
I felt this way
I just wake up smiling every day
I've got so much love
In my heart for you
And I'm gonna let all that
Love come on through
I'm just feelin' good —
you've got me feelin' good
Oh yeah I'm feelin' good
You've got me feelin' good

The Wheel of Life

© Written by Chi Coltrane (1972)

Life is like a ferris wheel
It keeps on turning without feel
As it spins round and round
It picks you up and lets you down
Up and down and back again
The world seems to be in a spin
Will this crazy cycle ever end?
And when it does-- what then?

The sun goes down and comes up again
I can't remember where I've been
The Ferris wheel goes round and round
I wonder if I'll hit the ground
I almost do-- I almost do,
But then somehow I've made it through!
The wheel climbs on-- I'm up on top again
Where is my life leading to?
Whatever am I coming to?
Sometimes fast-- sometimes slow
It makes a circle as it goes
As I face the ground below,
I fear the wheel may lose control
I know that I've been here before--
I do no know much more

Then the wheel begins to rise
And I can almost touch the sky
It feels so good it makes me glad
And now my life doesn't feel so bad
The good and bad times come and go,
As round and round the wheel must go
And you and I -- ride this wheel of life.

Who Ever Told You

© Written by Chi Coltrane (1973)

Who ever told you that you know how to dance?
You move on the floor but you havn't got a chance.
You got your hands in your pockets
and you're wearing a seethru mask.
You don't wanna follow
but you don't know how to lead.
You bought all the books
but you didn't take the time to read.
The floor is slipp'ry
but you never paid no heed
Who ever told you
ever told you
that you know how to dance?
Who ever told 'you
ever told you
that you know how to dance?
Who ever told you? Who ever told you?
You never learned how to listen to the band.
So how can you say that you really understand?
You know there's a problem
but you just shake your head.
You step on people's toes
and now you wonder why you're dancing all alone.
You move too fast and you come on way too strong.
You don't wanna know if your steps are right or wrong.
And we've all been watchin' your dancin' far too long.
You don't wanna hear what the people have to say.
You just keep on movin' and you think they'll go away.
But after the dancin'
the piper must be paid.
Who ever told you
ever told you
that you know how to dance?
Who ever told you
ever told you
that you know how to dance?
Who ever told you? Who ever told you?
Who ever told you? Who ever told you?

It’s Not Easy

© Written by Chi Coltrane (1973)

I get me up in the mornin’
Just to lay me down
An’ everybody ask me, “Why
you got to wear a frown?”
Well, it’s not easy
No, it’s not easy
It don’t come easy
You gotta keep a rollin’ on
You gotta keep on rollin’
But Lord sometimes it gets so hard
You don’t know why you do it
But still you got to carry on
Well, it’s not easy
No, it’s not easy
It don’t come easy
You gotta keep a rollin’ on
I’ve been tryin’ so long
I thought the world would end
I hit that bottom and
I didn’t have a friend.
Well, it’s not easy
No, it’s not easy
It don’t come easy
You gotta keep a rollin’ on
Don’t be askin’ ‘bout how
You’ll make it thru the storm
It’s not because of butter
Don’ you know you gotta be strong
‘Cause it’s not easy
It don’t come easy
No, it’s not easy
But, you gotta keep a rollin’ on.

Let It Ride

© Written by Chi Coltrane (1973)

Oh my friend, do not end,
Long before you learn how to begin
Just open up you’ll receive
But you must try to believe
Let it grow, let it grow,
And don’t fear what you don’t know
Just let it happen, it will help you
Let it come, let it come.
Al I ever wanted for you
Was to see you walk as well as run
And when you do _
That you do it in the light of day.
If you care, if you care,
Then you cannot leave it in the air
For you must exit the way that you came
Without name
Let it ride, let it ride
And don’t let it tear you up inside
‘Cause there’s an answer to your wonder
Just reach up to His light
All I ever wanted for you,
Was to see you walk as well as run
And when you do _
That you do it in the light of day.

Hallelujah

(G. Zekley, M. Bottler, R. Twain)

I used to look at life
thru a shade of grey
‘Til I found satisfaction in the things you say
You took me in your hands
And like a piece of clay
You made me so happy, now I’m proud to say
Hallelujah _ oh! Hallelujah, Lord, Hallelujah!
I’d wake up in the morning
An’ I’d wanna cry
‘Cause all my needed answers
Were just passing by
The feelin’s gettin’ stronger each and every day
An’ now I feel so happy
I’ve just got to say
Hallelujah _ oh! Hallelujah,
Hallelujah, Lord, Hallelujah!

Fly Away Bluebird

© Written by Chi Coltrane (1973)

Gonna see him just for a time
Gotta wait til the spring sunshine
It’s all gonna be so fine til it comes to the winter time
But he can’t help what he do
He’s my fly away bluebird
No, he can’t help what he do
He’s my fly away bluebird
He listen to his heart
or else he come apart
Do what the birds do and fly ‘fore the snow comes through
But he can’t help what he do
He’s my fly away bluebird
No, he can’t help what he do
He’s my fly away bluebird
He leave his happy home
Ache me in my bone
Fly into the night
No, it’s just no right,
But he can’t help what he do, he’s my fly away bluebird.

I Will Not Dance

© Written by Chi Coltrane (1972)

Did you say you're a public servant?
Well, then let me ask you why
You're keeping the public uninformed
When you're not feedin' us with lies
Listen to our founding fathers
Sit down and read the Bill of Rights
You'd better learn how to play the game by the rules
Or you're gonna have an awful fight
'Cause I will not dance to your music
And I will not drink your wine
And I will not toast to your success
Because you're no friend of mine, oh yeah you know it
You're no friend of mine
Why do you take my brother?
And why do you take my son?
Shipping them off to another land
To fight a war that can't be won
You can't say you don't know better
Because by now the truth is out
The people are all sick of following you
Because you don't know what it's all about

That's right, you don't know what it's all about
So I will not dance to your music
And I will not drink your wine
And I will not toast to your success
Because you're no friend of mine, oh yeah you know it
You're no friend of mine
I'm the younger generation and I love my country land
I can't stand to watch the nation fall apart
'Cause you won't understand
God help you "public servant"
When you stand before the King
When your works are shown and your lies are known
And your wasted life won't mean a thing
So pay attention to me as I sing
'Cause I will not dance to your music
And I will not drink your wine
And I will not toast to your success
Because you're no friend of mine, oh yeah you know it
You're no friend of mine.
